Eating fast food on the keto diet generally is not a good idea since there are typically many carbs in fast food. However there are some general rules that you can take note of that will help you stick to the keto diet even when you want to go out for fast food.
1. Don’t eat the bun Burgers can be great for the keto diet since they contain fatty meat. However you should avoid eating any burger buns since they contain carbs that will hurt your keto progress. 2. Only eat meat and vegetables Of course if you are going out for fast food you need to focus generally on finding only foods that meet the keto diet. Obviously this means that you shouldn’t mindlessly order something like French fries. 3. Avoid sauces 99 percent of the time sauces at fast food joints are primarily made up of sugar. This of course is problematic for the keto diet. Always remember that sugars actually are simple carbohydrates. Eating just a little bit of these sauces can throw your body out of ketosis. 4. Breaded items Be careful around heavily breaded meats. You might think “oh its just meat- no worries”. However breaded foods are sneaky sources of hidden carbohydrates that you might initially by unaware of. 5. Get a menu in advance If you are planning on stopping at a fast food joint in advance, google a menu for the restaurant first. From there you can plan out exactly what you would you can order that can give you the nutrients needed for the keto diet. 6. Choose wisely Lastly, you should choose carefully which fast food place you want to go to. For instance, don’t go to a place that serves exclusively burritos. Why? Because tortilla counts as a carb and at a burrito joint, you cant expect to find much else besides burritos. |
